Clinical and Electrodiagnostic features of the patients related to the Dioxin contamination



Abstract
A clinical and electrodiagnostic analyses were made on 123 cases of veterans who represented having been exposed to Dioxin in Vietnam War.
The examinations were performed at the division of rehabilitation medicine, Chonnam University Hospital from June 1993 to December 1993.
@ES The results were as follows
@EN 1. On physical and neurological examination, there were seneory disturbance 62 skin rash 51, sexual disturbance 47, urinary incontinence 43, increased deep tendon reflex 16, muscle atrophy 8, gait disturbance 8, speech disturbance 8 and
psychological symptom 7 cases.
2. We examined the electrodiagnostic study of 123 patients. There were polyneuropathy 30, mononeuropathy 23, radiculopathy 7, motor neuron disease 1, and myopathy 1 case, however 61 cases showed normal findings.
3. The underlying diseases of polyneuropathy 30 cases were DM 6, liver disease 2, chronic renal failure 1, anemia 1, tumor 1 case, however 18 cases didn't have any underlying disease.
Consequently, we suggest that there is high probability of producing polyneuropathy by the exposure of agent orange(Dioxin).
